Additional Information for Private Education Loans

Private Student Loan Information

Private student loans can be an important source of funding for students who are in need of funding beyond that which federal programs provide during the academic year. Students may request alternative/private student loans in an amount not to exceed the Cost of Education minus all other accepted financial aid and resources. These loans are credit-based loans and are offered by private lenders. They require a good credit history and/or a co-signer with a good credit history, and they are usually more costly than federal education loans due to interest rates and repayment terms that are not as advantageous to the borrower. Before applying for these loans, it is important for students to ensure that they have reviewed all federal loan options and eligibility. Students are encouraged to review the Department of Education's information on . Before the disbursement of any private education loan can occur, an applicant must complete a self-certification form. Generally, you will complete this form through your lender as part of the application process.

According to Title X of the Higher Education Opportunity Act, education institutions are not permitted to recommend alternative/private lenders to students. The list below is an alphabetical historical list of alternative loan providers that students have used in the past. If you have any questions regarding these loans, please contact the lender for more information.
