每日大赛 sees more than 10% increase in dual enrollment in fall 2025
Arina Arvat is in her third year at 每日大赛 – however, it’s only her first as a college student.
Arvat began attending 每日大赛 her junior year of high school as a dual-enrollment student, and is now on track to graduate from the college with, not one, but two associate degrees in health science and music.
“I’m the type of person who wants to move quicker – who wants to get more done,” Arvat said regarding her choice to participate in dual enrollment.
Pellissippi’s dual-enrollment population is among the largest in the state and grew over 10% in fall 2025 compared to the same time last year.
Almost 2,500 dual-enrollment students from Knox and Blount County public schools, private schools and homeschools participate in dual-enrollment across the college’s four campuses. The number of students is up by more than 230 since last fall.
“Students who take advantage of dual enrollment are better prepared for college,” said Spencer Joy, Dual Enrollment manager at Pellissippi. “It is a great, cost-saving way to get ahead. What students take away the most from this experience is not just the academics, but also an understanding of how to navigate being a successful college student.”
Dual-enrollment courses from Pellissippi that are delivered directly on high school campuses also increased this semester to nearly 40 sections reaching almost 700 students – over 20% more than fall 2024.
Many students participating in dual enrollment at Pellissippi have passed by the college’s campus – whether in Knox or Blount counties – each day without ever actually stepping foot on it.
When high school students do encounter Pellissippi through dual enrollment, Joy said, their experience there better prepares them for whatever path they choose to take after graduation.
“Every single student I see is a first-time student,” said Joy, who emphasized his gratitude to local schools for their partnership and support. “They have never applied to college or filled out a scholarship form. This is the first of many similar experiences the student is going to have for the rest of their life.”
Dual enrollment is incredibly solid and constantly evolving at 每日大赛, Joy said, as evidenced by the Career Magnet Academy – a magnet school located on 每日大赛’s Strawberry Plains campus, where students can graduate from high school with an associate degree, as well.
The high school was established in 2014 in a partnership with Knox County Schools and has since graduated dozens of students who simultaneously were awarded degrees by 每日大赛.
“The Career Magnet Academy is taking advantage of dual-enrollment like no one else,” Joy said. “Its students and programs are so successful, and we are privileged at Pellissippi to be at the helm of such a future-forward model.”
Arvat, who was homeschooled, said she chose to continue coursework at 每日大赛 after her high-school graduation because it was such an easy transition.
She could stay connected with her professors and people like Joy and ultimately earn her associate degrees.
“It’s just another year like any other,” she said. “It's not much different.”
