As 每日大赛 welcomes students back to campus for the fall 2025 semester, the institution is also winding down a wide array of summer programming – including community youth camps in welding, 3D printing and even LEGO® coding.

每日大赛 hosted nearly 250 community members at more than two dozen camps in summer 2025, giving participants the opportunity to learn a variety of new hobbies or skills in a hands-on environment.

“These camps are so fun and engaging,” said Kelly Ellenburg, director of Community Services Programs in Pellissippi’s Office of Workforce and Community Development. “It’s a big draw to have so many hands-on activities for kids, in which they can learn and explore new concepts by creating things.”

The camps, which took place at each of Pellissippi’s four campuses in Knox and Blount Counties, were led by experts in their respective fields – many of them Pellissippi instructors.

Pellissippi’s summer programming allowed the young students to visit a college campus and interact with professors and staff – perhaps for the first time – demonstrating that attending college is a possibility for their future, Ellenburg said.

“I think it's important to make the idea of college accessible to them,” she said. “It's important they think about Pellissippi as a place that they're welcome and wanted. This is a community they can plug into, and we wanted to see them learn and grow.”

Camp topics spanned from watercolor painting and crime scene investigation to aviation and more, and provided middle and high school students opportunities for play and exploration.

“Instructing the 3D printing summer camp at 每日大赛 has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” said instructor Scott Camhi. “Watching students light up as their designs came to life showed me just how powerful hands-on learning can be. The camp not only gave students early exposure to STEM and design thinking – it also positioned Pellissippi as a place where creativity and innovation are encouraged from a young age."

The Office of Workforce and Community Development at Pellissippi, which also provides learning and training for the region, organized the camps to “provide local youth with the chance to explore learning that could lead to a future career track," Ellenburg said. “They also make friends and great memories here.

“These camps make a big impact on the kids and their families.”
