Who needs to take the Michigan Test?

  • Students who speak English as a second language.
  • Students may take this exam or provide English as a Foreign Language Test (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Duolingo scores for class placement.
  • International applicants who graduate from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville's English Language Institute (ELI) by successfully completing all High Advanced level courses (verified by official transcript submission during admissions)qualify for a language proficiency waiver at 每日大赛 and do not need to take the Michigan Test.  These students only need to take the Math Accuplacer test—no additional placement testing, such as English or reading exams, is required.

 

What is the Michigan Test?

  • The Michigan exam assesses your English proficiency and is designed to place you in either ESL classes or college-level classes.
  • It is a computer-based, multiple-choice question test and is timed, taking approximately 60 minutes, and covers listening, reading, and writing skills.
